Honoring Iranian Yogurt Traditions with Homa Dashtaki and Nilou Motamed

  • Essex Market Teaching Kitchen (Top Floor) 88 Essex Street New York, NY, 10002 United States (map)

IN-PERSON EVENT at Essex Market Teaching Kitchen

As founder of the much-loved yogurt company White Moustache, Homa Dashtaki employs the same traditional Iranian methods of making yogurt that her family has for generations in her kitchen today. Her passion culminates in inspiring the use of a new ingredient: whey, the liquid gold extracted from straining homemade yogurt.

Her new book, YOGURT & WHEY: Recipes of an Iranian Immigrant Life is a collection of recipes reflecting a life affected by immigration, community, adaptation, and experimentation―and sublime, old-world, creamy yogurt. The book follows Homa's experience—an Iranian immigrant and successful lawyer turned artisan food entrepreneur—tracing the genesis of her company and her unbending ethos for excellence and sustainability.

Join Homa for an evening at Essex Market with Iranian-born food magazine editor and TV personality Nilou Motamed as they reflect on the Iranian and Zoroastrian traditions embedded in the pages of Yogurt & Whey, and consider how years of making beautifully rich and tangy yogurt inspired Homa to create a love letter to both yogurt and whey with recipes both ancient and new.

Tickets include light bites and a glass of wine.

Copies of YOGURT & WHEY by Homa Dashtaki are available from our partner bookstore, Kitchen Arts & Letters for purchase online with your ticket or separately at the event. If you order a book with your ticket, you will be able to retrieve it for signing at the event.

This is an in-person event. Tickets must be purchased online in advance.
