As a small organization, we rely on the amazing efforts of our volunteer docents, program assistants, and interns to help produce our world-class exhibitions, programs, events, and workshops.

We are looking for volunteer docents for our exhibition, Flavor: The World to Your Brain, on show in 2024 at MOFAD’s new location in DUMBO. Volunteer docents will provide interesting and entertaining information while assisting visitors of all ages with interactive exhibits.

Volunteer Policies

Volunteers should expect to commit to one four hour shift (12:30 to 4:30 pm Wednesday through Sunday) per week for three months. There will be opportunities to sign up for additional docent shifts as well as for programming and events. If you need to miss or swap shifts, please discuss with Exhibition Operations Manager.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and must enjoy working with all types of people.

Volunteers receive training as part of their volunteer service with Museum of Food and Drink. All volunteers must complete a two-hour orientation and training session before reporting to their first shift. Please choose your preferred training date and time on your volunteer application.

Volunteers will be recruited by the Museum on a proactive and as needed basis, with the intent of broadening and expanding the volunteer involvement within the Museum community.
Volunteers are recruited based upon their skills, abilities and suitability to perform volunteer responsibilities.
Ideal candidates should possess an appreciation for culinary history and anthropology, a genuine interest in engaging with the public, keen attention to detail, and a positive attitude. MOFAD volunteers are proactive, adaptable, and understand that reliability is key.
