ABOUT ANGELA GARBACZ
Angela Garbacz is the Owner, Creative Director and Head Pastry Chef of Goldenrod Pastries, a boutique pastry shop in Lincoln, Nebraska. Not only is she known and praised for her artfully designed, melt-in-your-mouth confections, but she is also a social media maven who was able to parlay the success from her personal blog into a thriving brick and mortar bakery. Baking since she was 15 years old, Garbacz always remembers being passionate about pastry. The Lincoln-native attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she received degrees in Culinary and Food Sciences; and, in 2008, she moved to New York City to attend the French Culinary Institute (now International Culinary Center), where she earned a degree in Classic French Pastry Arts. During her time there, she worked with top toques in the industry, including Dave Arnold, Jean Georges Vongerichten, Nils Nóren, and Harold McGee.
Years later, Garbacz learned she had an intolerance to dairy, a discovery that motivated her to refine recipes to be more diet-inclusive. Her food science background came in handy during this process - Garbacz’s methodical approach and deep understanding of the ingredients and techniques used in classical French pastry versus the substitutes she would now have to utilize, led her to reimagine and redefine baking for a variety of restricted and alternative diets (such as dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan + others). To chronicle her journey, she started the Goldenrod Pastries blog - and her recipes, photos and anecdotes quickly gained a large and dedicated following. For a year, Garbacz was fulfilling catering orders out of her home kitchen while also working in international marketing. Realizing it was time to pursue pastry full-time, she quit her job and decided to open up shop. In the spring of 2015, Garbacz opened the doors to Goldenrod Pastries where her all-American desserts and pastries feature unique flavor combinations and a strikingly vivid color palette. She is a lover of whimsy and sparkle, making her confections as beautiful to look at as they are delicious to eat. Garbacz is also an advocate for female-empowerment, which she proudly stands for at her all-women-powered bakery. In 2018, Angela spearheaded an initiative called "Empower Through Flour,” which brought together 20 female chefs and pastry chefs from across the United States to raise money and awareness for the non-profit organization I AM THAT GIRL.
